Graduating? LinkedIn Can Help

  • 6/26/2023

If you are among the more than 1.6 million students across the United States graduating college this year and about to embark on your very first career search, you’ve probably asked yourself, and maybe professors and your parents: What is the best way to get noticed by recruiters? While you may be like many other students this time of year, attending career fairs on college campuses, shaking hands, and handing out your paper resumes, you may want to consider adding an additional approach.

Many recruiters today use LinkedIn as a valuable tool for finding the next team member to complement their existing staff. So now you’re probably asking…what exactly does LinkedIn offer me?

Up to date resumes at all times. As long as you continue to add your recent employment, education, skills, etc. to your LinkedIn profile, recruiters can see at a glance if your experience and skill set match up with their current needs. After all, recruiters spend a lot of their day digging and searching to find perfect matches; why not be one of those?

Displays your ability to connect with people. Gone are the days of three personal references outlined on a paper resume, one of which may have been a distant relative. By connecting with your colleagues on LinkedIn, recruiters can easily see common connections that they have with you, ask those connections for insight into you and determine if you are a good fit for the company.

Keeps your name and face at the forefront of recruiters’ minds. Each time you connect with others, follow companies, or professionally interact in many ways on LinkedIn, you are placing yourself in front of the recruiter. Joining groups and following companies in the industry will show recruiters your interest in their market place. This is also a great way to learn more about companies through their LinkedIn pages.

So, as you are preparing your resume and asking your professors, friends and colleagues if you can list them as references, build yourself a LinkedIn account. And better than that, follow Truity Credit Union on LinkedIn as well as our recruiter, Andria McCollough. We post many of our positions on LinkedIn and you can easily stay up to date with all things Truity. Enjoy the search and best wishes as you work to land the career of your dreams.
