Employee Story: Faith Lawrenz

Truity Credit Union is where I started my very first bank account when I was 15. I loved my credit union and loved that people remembered my name when I walked in. I felt the culture here so much that I applied to work for Truity. I started here in August of 2014 as a teller with absolutely no prior banking experience. All I knew is that I wanted a job that focused on one thing above all else: Customer Service. My first branch was our 6th St location in Lawrence. The environment was fast-paced, which means I learned several new things every day. Thanks to the support of my co-workers and managers, after only three months of being a teller I was promoted to Member Consultant. I then started working at our branch on 23rd St to start that next chapter in my career.

When I say I had no prior banking experience, I mean none literally. I never had a credit card, an auto loan, or anything besides a checking account. As a consultant, you had to learn the ins and outs of accounts, regulations, loans, and credit. It seems daunting and an impossible task. I was confident I could learn, but I wasn’t confident at how quickly I could catch on.

But again, with the support of my manager, and the education and experience I gained from my peers, I learned. The impossible task turned into something I could do and would continue to do every day for three years. After that amount of time, I began to be someone that could help do the training and encouragement of newer staff – and I LOVED being that person.

In September of 2017 I was promoted to Lawrence Coordinator and now help training with all three Lawrence Branches. When I’m not training our staff, I’m opening accounts, doing loans, educating, and empowering our members to take hold on their financial futures and gain a better understanding about their credit – just as all of our member consultants do! It is the most rewarding job I have ever had – and the culture and support I have felt since day 1 of working here has only ever grown with time. I’m proud to say I am going into my 4th year at Truity Credit Union, and I am excited to see what comes next with the following years!
