Employee Story: Amanda Nichols
I started with Truity in July 2008 in the Call Center as a Consultant. In previous jobs, I had cash handling and customer service experience, but being a consultant was all new. My motto in my interview was “if I don’t know it, I will learn!” After six months in Call Center, I moved to a consultant in the Johnstone Lobby. I have worked my way through the different consultant levels (lead and senior). In 2017, I was promoted to Member Services Coordinator.
It is difficult to say what I enjoy most about working at Truity because there are so many wonderful aspects of working for the Credit Union. I love the culture and close-knit relationships you build with co-workers. It is fantastic to get to know people through Project Teams, Crews and volunteer opportunities. I will never forget that I had been here a couple of months and Kelly Diven recognized me in the elevator, knew my name and asked about my daughter! This type of interaction is not uncommon for employees throughout the organization. Plus, the Credit Union encourages employee community involvement as well as within the organization.
I appreciate that the Credit Union understands that we all have a family and allows us the convenience to be present for our families during the workday. Having the ability to use Excused Leave or other flexible work schedules has probably had the most significant impact on why I am so loyal to the Credit Union.
I have great managers that give me the opportunity to provide my input and have given me countless opportunities to expand my knowledge and skillset. In addition to my direct managers, we also have the Innovation Gatherers that allow me to submit my ideas. The Credit Union is focused on developing their employees as well as making the Credit Union and its resources better. I love that our management recognizes that employees at all levels have great ideas and they aren’t afraid to hear what you have to say!
Truity is a great place to work for the reasons listed above and countless more. In addition to these, I appreciate the outstanding benefits we are offered. At one point or another, I have utilized almost all the resources the Credit Union has to offer (medical, dental, flex, health reimbursement, wellness fair, EAP website, etc.).
When I started at the Credit Union, I looked at it as a job to support my family. After ten years, it is a career that I love! I think the thing that has driven me to better myself was the Talent Development Program. It was a growth experience where I identified my strengths and weaknesses. At the end of the program, I was given a road map with suggestions on how to continue to develop myself both professionally and personally. I have taken this to heart.
I think my favorite thing about where I am at now is the ability to help other consultants on their career path. Assisting with training and watching them grow is the most rewarding part of the job!
